Grammy-nominated singer Summer Walker had the internet gagging over her choice for a doula for her unborn child.
The 26-year-old pregnant mother has tapped “On And On” singer Erykah Badu to help her bring her baby or babies into the world, according to an Instagram post from December 18.
“Always surrounded by healers 🕯,” Summer wrote on the post where she shared a collage of photos, including one of her standing with Erykah, showing her very pregnant belly.

Erykah also put fans and followers up on game, posting a photo and video of herself with her daughter Puma to the Gram. The 51-year-old doula wrote about her latest special delivery that was on the way. Puma would also assist her mom with the delivery. Erykah also seemingly divulged that Summer was having twins.
“Peace peace .. MEET THE WELCOMING COMITTEE🤲🏾 Mother – Daughter DOULA duty. Doulas have become popular replacements for traditional births among Black women in the United States. A recent study also stated maternal and child outcomes are better when a doula is used. However, there is a difference between a doula and a midwife. According to Medicine.net, a midwife is a “health care professional.” The person can perform gynecological exams and offer other services like labor and delivery. A midwife also has medical training.
Conversely, a doula “provides physical, emotional, and informational support to an expectant mother before, during, and after childbirth. A doula focuses on an expectant mother’s own needs, which enables her to have a memorable and empowering experience while giving birth.” The person offering assistance is not medically trained and cannot deliver babies.
We can’t wait to see her new baby (babies) and wish her healthy, safe delivery.
