Pop Smoke’s Accused Murderer Wants To Talk To His Family

According to the New York Daily News, the family of Corey Walker wants to speak to the parents of Pop Smoke. Pop Smoke, whose real name is Bashar Jackson, was robbed and killed in Los Angeles at a rented Airbnb in Feb of last year. He was just 20 years old.

Sister 2 Sister Magazine reported that Walker was the driver during the robbery, but not the shooter. Jackson was showering at the Airbnb in the Hollywood Hills when four underage assailants with Walker broke into the home and stole Jackson’s Rolex at gunpoint.

Walker remained in the vehicle as the four teens broke in through a second-floor balcony. Pop Smoke, who was wearing his Rolex in the shower, complied with the assailants at first but decided to fight back. After a tussle, one of the unnamed assailants shot the rapper three times. The shooter is reportedly only 15-years-old. The teenagers also kicked Jackson as he was on the ground.

Walker admitted to a jailhouse informant that he participated in the robbery by casing the house and operating as the getaway driver. The robbers were after the jewelry and cash that Jackson posted on Instagram but only ended up with his diamond Rolex. They sold the watch for $2000.

Walker’s family has requested to speak to Pop Smoke’s parents, Audrey and Greg Jackson. The family wants to convey their condolences to the Jacksons. Walker is being represented by Christopher Darden, who was the prosecutor in the O.J Simpson trial. The family asked Darden to convey the message.

“The Walker family has asked me to contact the victim’s family so that they might speak privately. I hope to reach out to the family soon,” said Darden.“They might need time. I will also understand if his mom is not inclined to have that conversation. Everything we have done and said has been done and said while keeping in mind the great respect we have for the victim and the victim’s family,” Darden concluded.

Darden concedes that his client was at the Airbnb but contends that Walker did not murder anyone. After the murder of her son last year, Mrs. Jackson spoke about the tragedy upon learning that her son was also kicked while he lay dying on the ground.

“I didn’t know any of this. It’s all new. I just knew my boy was gone. Now it really feels like he’s not coming back,” she cried. “I don’t know what I thought being here would do. I thought something would happen that would help me feel differently. But to hear they kicked him when he was down. It’s so disrespectful and dishonorable. There was no honor in this. And the irony in this is that those same kids are the kids he said he made music for,” she added.

Mrs. Jackson is unsure whether she will speak to the Walkers and said that she is currently focused on her duties as a teacher with the New York City Department of Education.
