Platinum Songwriter J. Wright Charged With Fatally Shooting Girlfriend In Davenport

Wright, a popular Atlanta-based songwriter, was arrested and charged in the shooting death of his girlfriend, 20-year-old Wilanna S. Bibbs. On Sunday, May 9, the incident occurred at a Davenport, Iowa residence after local police responded to claims of a “disturbance,” KWQC reports.

After emergency services were called, Bibbs of Durham, North Carolina, was pronounced dead on the scene. Also known as Justin L. Wright, the platinum songwriter was promptly arrested and hit with a first-degree murder charge. Davenport police are still investigating the shooting incident to

determine more details, including why the pair were visiting Davenport on Mother’s Day weekend.

An unnamed cousin of Bibbs spoke exclusively with the Neighborhood Talk about their relationship. According to the outlet, they said, “They were dating, and Justin manipulated & controlled her, she was trying to leave. His mother bought her a ticket to come back to her son.”

The Neighborhood Talk also reports that they also left a comment under Wright’s Instagram pictures, allegedly writing, “You took her to Iowa and killed her on Mother’s Day, you threatened to kill my daughter also a few ago in ATL. You brainwashed & manipulated my cousin and tried to turn her against us. I hate she loved you. I hate she ever met you.”

Wright, 31, got his start in the music business when he was a young teenager. At 16, he achieved his first platinum record as a songwriter and began to work with high-profile artists like Chris Brown, Soulja Boy Tell’Em and Lil Wayne.

He opened up Camp Entertainment Worldwide when he was 21, offering production, management, and other artist services. This opened up even more doors for Wright, leading him to

collab with Atlanta rap stars Future, 21 Savage and more.

Wright’s preliminary hearing will be later this month, on May 20. The Atlanta man’s bond was set at $500,000, cash-only.
