Actress Angela Bassett has received two awards from the February 25 NAACP Image Award Ceremony. She delivered a beautifully worded acceptance speech thanking her supporters for the awards of Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series and the Entertainer of the Year honor.Â
Receiving the first for her work as Athena Grant in 9-1-1 and the latter as a culmination of all her work in 2023, Bassett rocked a white jumpsuit with large ruched ruffles on the sleeves. She said on stage while accepting the award from Method Man and Damson Idris, âThank you, thank you to the NAACP for this award. Itâs always a deep honor to receive this recognition from home, from family. I never get tired of thanking my family. Vance, Bronwyn, and Slater. I love you.â
Â
She thanked all those involved in making the series a success and âgoing along with me on this journey.â
The 64-year-old actress continued to talk about her experience coming to LA and joining the crew of 9-1-1. Â âYou know, some of you may recall that when I first came to L.A., you know, I did a lot of episodic TV. And when Ryan Murphy shared with me his vision and his idea that he wanted me to be a part of 9-1-1. I was excited to see what it was we could do. Itâs been six years, and we still standing strong.â
Bassett also won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her role as Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever after being nominated alongside powerhouses Lupita Nyongâo and Danai Gurira.
Fans of the New York actress praised her wins on social media following the award ceremony.Â
