Legendary media mogul Oprah recently revealed that she underwent double knee surgery in 2021 and said, “I literally could not lift my leg.”
Oprah shared that she had double knee surgery while hosting a discussion about gratitude for Oprah Daily’s “The Life You Want” Class. She shared her experience after guests, humanistic psychologist, Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman, and 12 insiders, expressed appreciation for their limbs.
“I had double knee surgery last year,” the OWN founder said. “I had knee surgery in August, and then I had another knee surgery in November.”
She continued, saying that during the recovery process she couldn’t “lift her leg” and that it motivated her to become more active once healed.
“When I came home the first time, I literally could not lift my leg,” Oprah explained. “I couldn’t lift my heel off of the bed, and I vowed if I was ever able to get up, walk around, and move again, I would take advantage of movement, exercise, and of being able to be fully in my body.”
It is then, the media mogul said, that she gained a passion for hiking.
“As I was rehabilitating, I started hiking. Every day, I tried to hike more and do more,” she said before crediting the discussion’s guests for reminding her to appreciate her limbs.”My appreciation for every organ and every limb has expanded exponentially. So, you mentioning that really brought that home to me.”
As a longtime advocate for gratitude, Oprah’s been sharing how thankful she is for the small things like her not-so-small garden. In an Instagram video posted to her account on Oct. 9, she–a self-professed plant-lover–happily shared her lettuce harvest with fans and followers.
