Nivea Says Lil’ Wayne Told Her To Quit Her Music Career

Nivea appeared on Kandi Burruss’ show On That Note and shared some of the details of her relationship with Lil’ Wayne. It seems she learned the same lesson many women learn the hard way after giving up her career on the rapper’s promises that he would take care of her before finding out he had lied to her.

“He said, ‘come be with me. I got you,’” Nivea told Burruss. The singer believed him and submitted a letter to her label telling them that she was retiring from music because Lil’ Wayne was going to take care of her.

Little did she know that there was plenty of nonsense happening behind her back that made it clear that quitting music was a bad idea.

One day, Lil’ Wayne suggested that they move to an apartment because he had never lived in one. They downsized from a house to an apartment only for Nivea to find out he had really moved his ex-wife Toya Johnson back into the house because they were getting back together.

Chile.

That happened in 2002, and the couple broke up in 2003.

As Kandi noted on the show, women have an uncanny and unhealthy knack for sacrificing their own goals and dreams to boo up with a man when men rarely do the same for the women in their life.

“This is something I tell every girl out there. I don’t give a d*mn how old you are. We have to think about our careers the same way they [men] think about their careers,” Burruss said. Nivea agreed and also admitted that she is working on sacrificing too much of herself in relationships to this day.

Nivea and Lil’ Wayne notoriously reunited, and in 2009, he re-proposed to her. When she was pregnant with their son Neal, she found out that Lauren London was also pregnant by the rapper. London had their son, Kameron, about three months before Nivea delivered their son, Neal.

Gloriously, however, London, Johnson, and even Lil’ Wayne’s eldest child, Reginae, came together to give Nivea credit for her honesty and vulnerability.

Nivea certainly is not the only woman who has been lied to after believing the promises of the man she loved.

Thankfully, the singer said she is in therapy and working through the mire.
