Nina Parker Makes History with Her Plus-Size Clothing Line for Macy’s

E! News’ Nina Parker is making history with her new plus-size clothing line for Macy’s. It’s the retailer’s first-ever plus-size clothing line to be created by a Black woman, the network reported.

Parker created the line after years of searching for the right off-the-rack dress to wear to awards shows. She revealed that clothing store fits simply weren’t working for her or her stylist.

“My stylist and I were trying to find stuff off of the rack, and it just wasn’t comparable to my counterparts,” Nina said. “It felt really unfair, like, ‘Yes, I am bigger than them, but does that mean I don’t matter as much because my waist is bigger?'”

Needless to say, she was sick of being sick and tired, so Parker took the reins and created her own gowns for the 2021 Golden Globes and the 2020 Oscars.

“I was tired of trying to make things work,” she told E!. “I was tired of trying to make a square a peg fit into a circle. So, I was like, ‘Let me create my own circle.'”

Parker wants to help all plus-size women express their sense of style.

The Nina Parker Collection will feature 17 items that accentuate plus-size women’s bodies from sizes 16W to 24W. Prices range from $39 to $139 for the posh gear, and the clothes are specifically designed to show off the curves and allure of plus-size women.

“With plus sizes, it’s like they want us to hide,” the host of Nightly Pop, explained. “They’re matronly, something my aunties might wear. I’m like, ‘I don’t understand why big has to mean conservative.'”

Parker was also adamant about placement when it comes to her line. Typically, clothing for plus-size women is relegated to a corner in the back of the women’s department in a manner Parker described as similar to a “drug deal.”

She wasn’t having it, not for her fashions. The Love & Hip Hop Reunion host wanted women to have the ultimate shopping experience.

“I want them to feel like they matter like they are a bad b*tch,” Parker said. “I want them to feel bossy like they can walk in a room, and everybody will take notice.”

The Nina Parker Collection debuts May 14 at Macy’s stores and online.
