Nicki Minaj Speaks On The Death Of Her Father

Nicki Minaj is speaking on the death of her father, Robert Maraj. The 64-year-old was walking along a road in Long Island last February when he was hit by a car driven by Charles Polevich, 70.

Polevich left the scene without calling 911, according to Nassau County Police Detective Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick.

“He was absolutely aware of what happened,” he said. “He got out of the car and he looked at the deceased, got into his car, and made the conscious decision to leave instead of dialing 911, instead of calling an ambulance for the man,” Fitzpatrick said. “He went home and secluded the vehicle. He’s well aware of what he did.”

Polevich turned himself in after police tracked the vehicle used in the hit-and-run to him. Carol Maraj, Nicki’s mother, has filed a lawsuit against Polevich. Her lawyer, Ben Crump, made a statement on Instagram.

“Polevich’s behavior was criminal, cowardly, and immoral. We will hold him responsible for his reckless actions that led to Robert Maraj’s death!”

Minaj, 38, understandably hadn’t yet spoken about her father’s passing. While Minaj isn’t ready to talk about the incident at length, she did comment on her father’s passing on May 14.

“Tho I can’t really bring myself to discuss the passing of my father as yet; I can say it has been the most devastating loss of my life. I find myself wanting to call him all the time. More so now that he’s gone. Life is funny that way. May his soul rest in paradise. He was very loved & will be very missed.”

The Grammy-nominated artist made the comments on her website. She also spoke about loving Viola Davis, Gillian Anderson and Claire Foy after binging on Netflix.
