Fans quickly assumed Nick Cannon wanted to get back together with Mariah Carey after he released a new song on Valentine’s Day called “Alone.” The song is played over Carey’s 1990 track, “Love Takes Time,” and Cannon sings about missing his ex-wife.
Cannon’s lyrics note he wishes he could have Carey back. He also references his growing family. Cannon has his eighth child on the way with model Bre Tiesi.
“I’d been lyin’ / I say I’m cool when I know I miss it/ I’d trade it all for the case / If I could have you back / If I could go back to where we started at,” he sang.Â
“As much as I want you back / It’s probably better where you at/ Cause I’m still running the streets / I’m still all in the sheets having babies / Models and singers and actresses saying they pregnant by me/ Have to pay $10,000 a week.”
“This is the gospel of my broken soul – this is as raw as it gets/ Sometimes I lay there at night and thinkin’ like, ‘how did I get here/ you fucked up’ but I can’t stop crying cuz I don’t wanna be here alone.”
Cannon said on his talk show the following day that he knew getting Carey back was “impossible” and that the song was more about taking ownership of his mistakes and admitting that he had the girl of his dreams before messing it up.
“I just get real. I’m raw, personal,” said Cannon. “I dropped the song on Valentine’s Day for all the people out there that was alone on Valentine’s Day I did a song called “Alone.” And it s after one of my favorite Mariah Carey songs, “Love Takes Time” and so I think people put two and two together….Everybody’s saying that this was my song to get Mariah back. I, I know that’s impossible,” to which an audience member shouted to Cannon, “Nothing is impossible if Jesus can help it.”
He went on to say that music is therapeutic and helps him get through things by reflecting. He added that the song was about taking ownership of what he did as a man.
“Yes I know! I had my dream girl, I messed it up and now I’m singing for EVERYBODY who feels #Alone. #WhatsPoppin #NickCannonShow @NickCannon.”

Fans reacted to'”Alone” on social media, and of course, they had jokes. One fan said Nick Cannon needed his booty whipped for trying to duplicate the high-note in Carey’s song.

So after siring a kindergarten class full of children in the last 2 years, Nick Cannon wants Mariah back?
If he needs help paying child support, he should just say that.

If Nick Cannon was smart he would’ve sampled “Cruise Control” by Mariah and specifically the part where she said “He brings the drama, 6 baby mamas, ohhh”

Carey, who has been in a relationship for several years with choreographer and dancer Bryan Tanaka, posted a picture on Instagram with her Valentine following the song’s release. The “Shake It Off” singer did not appear to want that old thing back.
“Valentine’s marathon continues. Hour 23! ❤️ .”
