Nick Cannon Honors 102-Year-Old Great Grandmother

This past weekend, Nick Cannon traveled to North Carolina to honor his 102-year-old great-grandmother for her community work.

Corrine Cannon celebrated her birthday this weekend in Kannapolis. Her alma mater Barber-Scotia College recognized the community advocate for guiding 100 of her heirs to attend the historically Black institution. Charlotte Mayor Vy Lyles lauded her for her community work.

According to the Independent Tribune, Corinne supported civil rights and was the first Black woman hired at the segregated Cannon Mills Plant in 1963.

She endured the racism of white employees and opened the door for other Black women and men to join the company.

Michael Eury wrote about Corrine in his book, “Legendary Locals of Cabarrus County,” saying, “The first African-American woman to be hired for a Cannon Mills production position, Mrs. Corine Cannon withstood resistances from some white workers during her 1963 arrival at the mill. Piercing glares of disapproval were often accompanied by whispered remarks or vocal taunts. A white supervisor recommended that Cannon turn the other cheek and not respond but to privately report abusive whites. Cannon Mills’ plants were segregated when she joined the workforce, including the restrooms, but Mrs. Cannon was soon followed by more women of color and later, black men in management positions.”

It was nice of Cannon to take a break from his baby daddy duties to celebrate with her.

As previously reported by Sis2Sis, Cannon is expecting his ninth and tenth babies with Alyssa Scott–the mother of his deceased son, Zen–and his ex-girlfriend Lanisha Cole. The mother of his eighth child, Bre Tiesi, is also pregnant.

He has 11-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe with ex-wife and singer Mariah Carey, son Golden, five, and 17-month-old daughter, Powerful, with ex-girlfriend Brittany Bell and almost one-year-old twins Zion and Zillion with Abby De La Rosa.

He recently revealed that he had a vasectomy consultation, saying he wasn’t trying to “populate the earth.”
