Legendary co-stars Nia Long and Larenz Tate are set to have a Love Jones reunion at CultureCon, in commemoration of the film’s 25th anniversary.
According to reports, Long and Tate will be headlining a Creative Genius conversation at the fourth annual CultureCon, presented by the Creative Collective NYC. The discussion will reportedly be a mainstage dialogue celebrating some of the most impactful figures in the culture, that’ll take place on Oct. 8.
Long and Tate famously starred in New Line Cinema’s Love Jones back in 1997. The classic ’90s romance film, which followed the love story of fictional characters Nina Mosley (Long) and Darius Lovehall (Tate), grossed a whopping $12.5 million at the box office when it was released. Its soundtrack, Love Jones: The Music, also spawned several classic R&B songs, including “The Sweetest Thing,” by iconic award-winning musician Lauryn Hill.
In a 2021 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tate revealed that, from the jump, he knew he and Nia would have great chemistry on set.
“Immediately, we just kind of had a nice little spark and a connection, and it just felt natural,” he told the outlet. “I didn’t feel any pressure going into the room [for the screen test]. I don’t think she felt any pressure. Once we began to do our scene, I think they saw…that we were the right pair.”
In addition to the Love Jones reunion, CultureCon NYC 2022 will host “exclusive screenings, networking events, and activations for creatives and young professionals of color, all leading up to the big conference day.”
The conference will reportedly be divided into two main stages: the Creator Workshop Stage and the Culture Stage. At the Creator Workshop Stage, “creatives will be able to come and learn specific skills” while “creative forces will inspire the community” at the Culture Stage.
CultureCon attendees will also be able to visit the Activation Alley–a selection of activations dedicated to recruiting diverse and multi-faceted talent. Activation Alley will feature an initiative that “empowers guests to shop from Black and Brown-owned brands,” called the Small Business Market.
