New Jersey Councilwoman Gunned Down Outside Of Her Townhouse, FBI Investigating

A New Jersey community is reeling after the shocking shooting death of a councilwoman outside of her house.

On February 1, Eunice Dwumfour was gunned down inside the complex of her townhouse in Sayreville, New Jersey, inside her SUV. My Central Jersey reported that the 30-year-old Republican councilwoman died after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds. The mother of a 12-year-old daughter was reportedly dropping someone off at her townhouse when an assailant opened fire. Neighbors called the police shortly after 7 pm, and authorities pronounced her dead at the scene.

Phil Murphy, the governor of New Jersey, said he was “”stunned”” by the heinous act.

“I am stunned by the news of Sayreville Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour’s murder last evening in an act of gun violence,” Murphy said. “Her career of public service was just beginning, and by all accounts, she had already built a reputation as a committed member of the Borough Council

who took her responsibility with the utmost diligence and seriousness.”

Sayreville Mayor Victoria Kilpatrick also gave a statement on Dwumfour’s’ passing.

“As a community, we are shocked and saddened at the loss of Eunice Dwumfour. Eunice was a dedicated member of our Borough Council who was truly committed to serve all of our residents. The fact that she was taken from us by a despicable criminal act makes this incident all the more horrifying.””

Although local police are involved, the FBI is also a part of the investigation in a capacity that has been disclosed.

“The FBI is aware of that incident, and we are working with all of our partners in order to find out more about that incident,” FBI Special Agent in Charge James E. Dennehy.

On February 2, Mahesh Chitnis expressed his feelings about Dwumfour’s’ death. The Vice Chair of Human Relations in Sayreville posted on Facebook.

“”I am shocked, scared and heartbroken. Eunice Dwumfour, fellow Human Relations Commissioner (former), Sayreville councilwoman and a neighbor was killed 300 feet from my home this evening. She was shot while returning back home. She was a woman full of life.””

Chitnis continued, “When she missed HRC meetings, she used to call me and ask me to put her on speaker so that she could participate. I was looking forward to meeting her tomorrow in our monthly meeting. We will miss her. When a fellow commissioner messaged me, I couldn’t believe that this can happen in my town. After almost 2 hours, I am still processing the news…Her family is in my prayers. Eunice, rest in peace, my friend.”

Dwumfour was well-liked in the small New Jersey town with a population of 44,243. Over 60% of the town’s residents are white.

“We remember Eunice for how she lived, not for how she died,” Sayreville Republican Chair Karen Bailey Bebert expressed. “She was the embodiment of Sayreville, living the American Dream, overcoming challenges with grit and a smile. And always giving of time and love to others. She embodied Sayreville and will be terribly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.”

On February 3, Dwumfour’s’ husband, Eze Kings, reportedly posted a strange “Happy Birthday” to his deceased wife with a collage of gorgeous photos of the two of them.

“4th March is your birthday. Happy, glorious birthday in addy, my love,” the pastor, who resides in Abuja, Nigeria, wrote.

The local politician, elected to the council in 2021, was a devout leader in her church. Dwumfour also worked as a business analyst and a part-time paramedic. Authorities don’t have any suspects or a motive but are still investigating.
