New Details Emerge: Pop Smoke Was Kicked On The Ground During Robbery And Murder

The Brooklyn rapper was allegedly showering when the attack began.

Los Angeles Police Department Det. Christian Carrasco testified Thursday that a female witness told police about Brooklyn rapper Pop Smoke’s final moments. During the robbery and murder in early 2020, the witness alleged that he was kicked on the ground after being shot by his assailants.

According to the New York Daily News, during the preliminary hearing for Corey Walker, the suspect in Pop Smoke’s murder, Carrasco took the witness stand and

cited the unnamed witness’s testimony.

Pop Smoke, born Bashar Jackson, was taking a shower in a Los Angeles Airbnb on February 19, 2020, when the incident took place. An intruder placed a semiautomatic firearm against the witnesses’ forehead and allegedly told her, “Shut the f*** up. Do you want to die?”

She heard a struggle coming from the shower area and heard Mr. Jackson screaming. Mr. Jackson ran out of the bathroom, and then she heard a loud pop and [heard] Mr. Jackson fall to the ground,” Carrasco
revealed at the hearing, adding, “Two other individuals began to kick him.”

Continuing to detail the witness’ account, Carrasco continued, “Mr. Jackson gets up and run downstairs. She hears two more pops,” the detective said on the witness stand. “She follows Mr. Jackson, sees him on the ground and screams for Michael to call 911.”

The female witness also told Los Angeles police that the intruders stole the rapper’s jewelry, including a “large gold watch.”

Upset by the testimony of her son being kicked on the ground, Pop Smoke’s mother, Audrey Jackson, shook her head in the courtroom, the New York Daily News reported.

In addition to Walker, 20, three juvenile suspects have also been charged with Pop Smoke’s murder and robbery.

According to the New York Daily News, Walker, the only adult facing charges in the case, could receive the death penalty.
