We were introduced to reality television pioneer Nene Leakes and her husband Gregg Leakes on the first season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. During her time on the show, NeNe has been open about her marriage’s ups and downs, as well as dealing with Gregg’s colon cancer battle, which had reached stage three in 2018. But though the couple celebrated his “cancer-free” status in late 2019, the Bravo star revealed in an interview Monday that her husband was unfortunately hospitalized due to the return of his cancer.
Sitting down with the Jasmine Brand for a virtual sit-down, NeNe was asked how Gregg was doing. Pausing for a few seconds, the 54-year-old television personality decided to publicly reveal that her husband was in the hospital following his cancer coming back.

“Gregg is so-so. He’s in the hospital,” she said. “He’s been in the hospital, tomorrow will be a week. I haven’t talked publicly about that. This is the first time I’m saying something about it…I’m sure he’ll be home in about a week or so. He had to have surgery, so his cancer did return, yeah.”

NeNe then asked fans for prayers and divulged that she didn’t plan on making a public statement until Gregg returned from the hospital, adding “I’d love everybody to pray for Gregg. That would be beautiful. Pray for his strength…And pray for me too.”
Last year, Gregg opened up about his years-long cancer battle in a vulnerable Instagram post, writing, “2 years ago today I was told I had cancer. I remember being sad inside but I knew I had to be strong on the outside as much as I could. It was very tuff finding out. The next 2 questions always are: how bad & how long? God has ALWAYS been there for me and covered me with the Blood.”

“I Thank God for being there for me,” he continued. “I thank my wife for taking excellent care of me and loving me even tho I wasn’t an easy patient and everybody else for Praying for me. God loves you & I do too…”
We wish Gregg and the Leakes family the best during this difficult time.
