Former Real Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes had a few words for the men sending her DMs on Twitter. Leakes’ husband, Gregg Leakes, passed away from colon cancer on Sept. 1.
Leakes posted a message on her Instagram Stories on Oct. 7 thanking the men for cheering her up with their DMs. She also politely said that she wasn’t interested and that she was focusing on herself right now.
“Thank you to everybody. All the gentleman that have been in my DMs, thank y’all too,” she said.
“Heyyyyy! I’m just over here just doing me right now. But anyways, hey, I love reading the messages. They are inspiring to say the least.”
Mr. and Mrs. Leakes were married in 1997 and had a son, Brentt. They briefly divorced in 2011 but were remarried in 2013. Bravo gave them a spin-off show called I Dream Of Nene: The Wedding, which covered their second nuptials.
Mr. Leakes lost his battle with colon cancer over one month ago at the age of 66. Part of his story aired during the Real Housewives of Atlanta in 2018 when he was diagnosed with stage III cancer. He later went into remission, and the couple celebrated him being cancer-free in 2019.
Unfortunately, cancer returned, and Nene made the announcement while appearing on the Jasmine Brand in June.
“Gregg is so-so,” she said. “He’s in the hospital. He’s been in the hospital, tomorrow will be a week. I haven’t talked publicly about that. This is the first time I’m saying something about it…I’m sure he’ll be home in about a week or so. He had to have surgery, so his cancer did return, yeah…I’d love everybody to pray for Gregg. That would be beautiful. Pray for his strength…And pray for me too.”

After his passing, NeNe thanked her fans for their support and condolences on Instagram Stories and said she was doing as well as could be expected.
She has been trying to stay busy and around people while she grieves. Leakes appeared at her restaurant, the Linnethia Restaurant & Lounge, during karaoke night on Oct. 13. She also posted pictures from back in September when she hung out with Lamar Odem, Marlo Hampton and Cynthia Bailey.
