Director Robert Townsend recently revealed that Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion are among the many people who have expressed interest in a potential reboot or sequel of the 1997 cult classic B.A.P.S.
The original film, which starred Halle Berry and Natalie Desselle-Reid, has had a lasting impact on pop culture, and the prospect of a new version of the story has generated a lot of buzz.
In a recent interview with SlashFilm, Townsend discussed the cultural impact of B.A.P.S. and the mixed reactions the film has received over the years.
“There’s people that love, love, love the film and some people that didn’t get it. And those that love it — like you love it, and you get it. I’ve had people go, ‘Hey, we want to do a remake,’” Townsend said. “Everybody from Megan Thee Stallion to Cardi B is like, ‘Could we do…’ I mean, it’s like, I don’t know.”
“It’s kind of interesting because some people love B.A.P.S. and then some people don’t like B.A.P.S. And some people are mad because they go, ‘You gave Halle Berry gold teeth and blonde hair.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, I did!’” Townsend said.

Despite the mixed reviews, Townsend is open to the idea of a remake or sequel.
“It’s a well-made movie, and if you go on the ride and go, ‘Oh, it’s two country girls trying to make some money, and then they find who they are,’ And at the end of the day, they do win. But it’s because they’re being honest and transparent,” Townsend added.
The potential involvement of Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion has added to the excitement surrounding a new B.A.P.S. project. With their energy and talent, they could bring a fresh perspective to the beloved story.
Whether or not a new project comes to fruition, the original film will always hold a special place in the hearts of fans who love its unique brand of humor and heart.
