Nathan Dahm Makes Lewd Statement About Kamala Harris; Colleagues File Formal Complaint

The “People Who Never Learn” club has a new member. Oklahoma Senator Nathan Dahm is in hot water due to the comments he made about Vice President Kamala Harris described as offensive and misogynistic, KFOR reported.

Last Friday, the Republican lawmaker was interviewed by KFOR’s sister station about Senate Bill 1065 that he filed. The bill would ban the use of paper and pasta straws in the state of Oklahoma. He proposed the bill as a slap back to “leftist loons” who have banned plastic straws due to their harmful effects on the planet and underwater wildlife. He specifically referenced the state of California.

When asked to clarify his statement, Dahm said, “You can’t use a paper straw for a milkshake, but maybe Kamala Harris could because of her vast experience; maybe she could get that accomplished.”

Yes, he went there.

In a move that should inspire optimism, Senate Pro Tempore, Republican Greg Treat, denounced Dahm’s comments as immature and misogynistic. Senate Floor Leader Kim David, also a Republican, agreed.

“Being someone who has dealt with this pretty much my entire professional career, it’s not something we take lightly,” she said.

Despite outcries, even from his own party, Dahm continued to be unrepentant about his comments. First, he doubled down and insisted that Harris got most of her early positions through lewd interactions. Later, he parroted

the line that every racist, misogynistic white man in the third millennium does and claimed the outrage resulted from people not being able to take a joke.

“I was making a joke,” Dahm told KFOR. “I understand that some people will find it to be off-color that I would repeat a joke, but I believe that’s one of the problems that we have in society right now is that people seem to not be able to take a joke.”

On Monday, Democrat senators representing Oklahoma City and Tulsa offered a “hee-hee hell” to Dahm via formal complaint.

“Last week, a sitting Oklahoma Senator, Nathan Dahm, publicly exhibited behavior which we believe violates RULE 5: CONDUCT AND ETHICAL STANDARDS, Rule 5-1 Legislative Conduct, as found in the Senate Rules and Joint Rules of the Fifty-Eighth Legislature of Oklahoma, 2021-2022,” Senators Kay Floyd and Kevin Matthews wrote in the complaint.

Treat has offered no comment on whether or not Dahm would be formally disciplined. Nathan’s Twitter bio describes him as the most conservative Republican in the Oklahoma senate. Based on what is known about the inverse relationship between conservatism and intelligence, none of this is surprising.
