Joining the ladies of The Real for a sit-down interview last week, acclaimed music executive LA Reid revealed his “ideal” Verzuz matchup to viewers, and it’s between none other than Mariah Carey and Beyoncé. While it’s uncertain whether either Grammy award-winning vocalists would be up for it, social media users had plenty to say about the hypothetical battle.
“We know Bey as the queen, right?” Reid stated on the talk show. “Sometimes Mariah might be slightly underrated for how long her career has lasted, how many hits she has, and she practically owns Christmas…so I think that’ll be a good one.”
Dozens of Twitter users shared their conflicting opinions on who they thought would come out on top, while some wondered if a Verzuz battle between the two even made sense.
“LA Reid said he wants to see a Mariah #verzuz Beyonce battle, and I am here to tell the young people of the internet that Mimi is not to be toyed with.” a Twitter user wrote about the “Fantasy” singer. “She has the catalog, the range and the writing credits to topple them all. Don’t mess with Ms. Carey, children. Don’t do it.”

It’s the young kids that think Beyoncé would beat Mariah in a verzuz.
Let’s not forgot they’re just finding out Ray J and Brandy are siblings. pic.twitter.com/iNHOcxQi33

The fuhh he say? I love Beyonce and I love Mariah, but Mariah would destroy vocally. If it is dance competition bey would win.

Nobody cares that Mariah writes her own music. So stop debating that with me. CAN SHE BEAT BEYONCE IN A VERZUZ BATTLE???? pic.twitter.com/frvS7H2Bkz

Others questioned the Verzuz pairing between the singers, with one fan stating, “Don’t get it twisted. I love Mariah Carey & Beyoncé for different reasons, but these two in a Verzuz wouldn’t make sense. They are from 2 different generations. Mariah was writing & selling millions of albums and selling out stadiums while Beyoncé was still in grade school.”

La Reid is chatting shit since when is Mariah underrated? Plus a Beyoncé and Mariah verzuz doesn’t make sense they’re not contemporaries https://t.co/YKjnwwy2LY

They are from different gens, not a good match. The only credible match for Mariah would be against Whitney Houston or Celine Dion. Whitney is out for obvious reasons and Celine is not black, but if they waive that technicality I could see Celine entertaining the idea.

Though it may never happen, we’ve just got to ask: Who do you think would win in a Verzuz battle: the Queen of Christmas or Queen Bey? Let us know your pick in the comments.
