D.L. Hughley does not have time for drama and is erasing Mo’Nique and the feud over a contract from his life despite the actress publicly apologizing to his family for her words.
A TMZ reporter approached Hughley at LAX to get his thoughts on The Parkers actress’ apology, to which the veteran comedian seemed to be a bit “confused” as to who and what the reporter was referring to.
“I don’t even know who you’re talking about,” he stated. “Listen, I don’t even know who you’re talking about. You only get so many breaths in your life, and I refuse to use one more on somebody like that.”
“I can tell you this,” he continued. “I work, my family’s intact, we just came from doing a benefit for the people that are affected by the tragedy in Buffalo. I can go home and see my granddaughter. I have no words or breath left for somebody like that.”
When the reporter asked if he would work with her again, he maintained pretending he didn’t know who she was. The reporter then stated that he feels like everyone has a line drawn.
“And my line is my family,” Hughley responded.
The feud started when Mo’Nique accused Hughley of taking her headliner spot at “The Comedy Explosion” show at the Fox Theater in Detroit when her contract labeled her the headliner.
The two comedians then decided to draw their guns by posting photos of their contracts, with Hughley pointing out that Mo’Nique’s contract was submitted from her own company.
Hughley also posted a photo of his deal memo, which includes the lineup and indicates Hughley as the closing act or the headliner.
Mo’Nique crossed the line when she brought his family into the mess. In an Instagram post, she disrespectfully asked how can his wife “suck the d**k of a coward” and struck a nerve when she criticized the comedian for not believing his youngest daughter when she told him a friend of his sexually assaulted her.
Enraged about how low the Precious actress went, Hughley’s daughter, Ryan Shephard, responded in the comments.
Hi, @therealmoworldwide. I’m Ryan Nicole Shepard (D.L. Hughley and LaDonna Hughley’s eldest daughter). You’ve now publicly disrespected my mother—who I love and care for very much—and my baby sister—who I love and care for very much to get back at my father—who I love, respect, and care for very much. At this point, I feel like you are asking my family and myself to act out of character,” the comment read.
During her comedy show in Raleigh, North Carolina, she apologized to his family for her words, calling them “insensitive.”
“So I’m about to do something right now publicly that I did publicly. And when I f— something up, I gotta fix it up. So I’m gon’ take care of that right now before I go any motherf—ing further. To D.L. Hughley’s family, I wanna publicly apologize if I hurt anyone’s feelings. I want to publicly apologize to his wife, his babies if I hurt their feelings because that was never my god d— intention.”
While apologetic about what she said, Mo’Nique made it clear she wasn’t sorry for what she said about Hughley.
