Mendeecees Harris is in his feelings after Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta fans dragged him and his wife, Yandy Smith, for their treatment of foster daughter Infinity.
Smith and Harris found themselves in the middle of a sh-tstorm after the latest episode of Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta aired on Tuesday night. During the episode, the couple told Infinity they didn’t want her to live in their home and offered to get her an apartment.
At only 19-years-old, Infinity is nowhere near ready to be on her own.
“You’re gonna get a job to pay your rent and start to live on your own,” Harris explained. “We’re gonna pay your rent for the first two months. We’re gonna help you be independent and make that transition to young adult.”
The 19-year-old didn’t take the news well and burst into tears.
“To y’all, it feels like y’all helping me,” Infinity told them. “I feel like my biological mom is putting me out. I’m just not ready for it, and I want to fix everything I’ve done.”
Smith took Infinity in as a foster child while Harris was in prison. After he was released, Smith fell out with the teen, who was reportedly dating an older person who threatened the family.
This week’s episode upset fans who believe Smith and Harris were retraumatizing the teen.
“So it’s ok for Mendeecees to make a mistake… come home & live off of Yandy, but when the adopted daughter make a mistake she cut out the picture,” wrote one viewer.
“Personally, Mendeecees her out because they are uncomfortable but they would NEVER do what they are trying to do for her to their biological kids & that’s what infinity was trying to tell them!” wrote another fan.
A day after the episode aired, Harris hopped on Instagram to defend his family. The former jailbird insisted fans were only seeing one side of the issue.
“That conversation took an hour long, and how it was edited to two minutes,” Harris explained. “From the two minutes ya’ll get to see, it was very sad. It was sad what transpired out of that conversation…I was trying to figure out a solution…nobody tried to be mean. I’m not cold-hearted, I do have compassion.”
He claimed the commentary was negatively affecting Infinity.
“Your comments are very hurtful…ya’ll are hurting Infinity, ya’ll are hurting her healing process,” he said.
Smith hasn’t spoken on the controversy publicly. Her husband should follow her lead.
