Viewers will get to meet the upbeat receptionist Astra, aka “Funky Chunky,” who breaks the tension when things start to pop off; the fiery hair specialist “A-Love,” who isn’t afraid to pop off; Lopez’s closest friend “007,” who is all about satisfying clients through fashion; celebrity hairstylist and makeup artists Taj, who is the most level-headed among them all; and aesthetician BB, who is unapologetically blunt.
Undoubtedly, in a salon full of women with varied personalities, viewers can expect the drama to brew every episode, all while completing their mission to make plus-sized women feel beautiful. The promo video for the new series shows that on top of the heated drama, there will be heartfelt moments throughout the show. One alluring thing shown in the previews is Lopez having issues walking. Of course, watching the show can only reveal the mystery concerning that matter.
According to the Mirror, Babydoll Beauty Couture first opened in Los Angeles and was there for five years before Lopez had to move it to Las Vegas after receiving numerous death threats and, one time, discovered someone vandalized the along by smearing feces all on the windows.
“People just don’t like fat people, they treat us horribly,” Lopez said. “They want to make us feel like we’re unwelcome or feel like we don’t belong here. It’s been crazy. My business was vandalized, our salon signs and air conditioning were both broken – and someone literally put poop on our windows.”
Super Sized Salon is set to premiere on WeTV on July 29.
