A Maryland woman is making history, becoming the first Black woman to solely own a tequila brand. Tiffany Hainesworth found herself on this new journey after an accident forced her to leave a career in criminal justice.
The owner of TCapri Tequila, Hainesworth told NBC Washington, “I was in a car accident, and, you know, things were bad for me, I wasn’t working. I wanted to do something different, something fun.”
Hainesworth started researching the tequila making process in 2018. She found a distillery in Guadalajara, Mexico and worked in the fields with the farmers.
“It was important to me to pay homage to a product that I was producing. I didn’t want to just slap my name on a bottle and say I have a liquor brand.”
Currently, TCapri Tequila is on shelves in liquor stores across Maryland. The goal is for it to sell worldwide.
“It makes me feel like anything is possible for women, anything is possible for minorities,” Hainesworth said. “You just have to focus, put your mind to it and stay at it.”
