Iconic rapper MC Lyte’s divorce is final, and she wholly owns her music catalog.
After a long wait, the rapper (real name Lana Michele Moorer) is no longer married to her former husband, Marine John Wyche. Lyte filed for divorce in 2020, and because of the prenuptial agreement (prenup) they signed in 2017, she gets to keep everything she owned before, during, and after the marriage, including her creative works, according to The Blast.
“MC Lyte keeps her clothing, jewelry, watches, and personal effects in her possession, custody, or control, and earnings and accumulations before the date of marriage, during the marriage, and post-separation, her Subaru, financial accounts in her name, all furniture, furnishings, and other personal property in her possession, custody, or control. According to the outlet, she also gets to keep her term life insurance policy,” the court documents read.
Furthermore, Wyche will not receive any spousal support from his former wife.
Lyte and Wyche married in Jamaica in August 2017 after meeting on Match.com but quickly separated in 2018.
“Irreconcilable differences have arisen between the parties, which have led to the irremediable breakdown of the marriage, making it impossible for the parties to live together as husband and wife,” the documents read.
As previously reported by Sis2Sis, Lyte opened up about her divorce with Wyche on The Real in February 2022, revealing that the divorce was prolonged because Wyche didn’t want to sign the divorce papers. She took to Instagram on Sunday to clarify what she meant about her ex not wanting to sign the papers.
“While I made public comments related to the delay in signing papers, I can state that any delay may have been connected to his desire to save the relationship; never to take any of my property,” the post read.
