Legendary award-winning artist Mary J. Blige’s production company Blue Butterfly recently inked a non-scripted first-look deal with BET.
According to a press statement released by BET, Blue Butterfly also struck a second-look deal. The Black entertainment giant’s EVP of Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy, Connie Orlando, said the company is “proud” to collab with Mary.
“As we strive to provide our audience with the best in biopics and documentaries, we are poised to remain at the forefront in offering high-quality, authentic on-screen portrayals of the lives of the culture’s most significant Black talent,” Connie said in the release. “We are proud to supercharge the portfolio of content through our collaboration with Mary J. Blige’s production company, Blue Butterfly.”
She added praises of the queen of hip-hop soul, saying that she “blazed trails to become a global superstar.”
“Throughout her legendary career, Mary has blazed trails to become a global superstar,” Connie said. “With Blue Butterfly, Mary develops awe-inspiring stories of the Black experience while uniquely using music to set the foundation. Mary has been a vital part of the BET family, and we are eager to see our partnership flourish through this partnership.”
BET’s latest release revealed that the first unscripted project being developed under the first-look deal is THE WINE DOWN, an “innovative” series hosted by the artist.
The Wine Down talk show will reportedly “bring together the hottest, most outspoken, highly sought-after people in entertainment, sports, social media, and politics to uncork a bottle to take a sip and have raw, provocative, insightful and real conversations.”
Among the series’ first guests will be award-winning entertainer Taraji P. Henson and City Girls rapper Yung Miami.
“BET has been one of my biggest supporters throughout my career. Being able to now create together, for them to be so supportive of my vision for the type of content I will create is something I am grateful and excited for. We already have multiple projects in the works, and there is much more to come,” Mary gushed.
She first launched Blue Butterfly Productions, her very own film, television and digital content company, in 2019.
