Mary J. Blige Wins First Emmy Award For 2022 Super Bowl Halftime Performance

Grammy Award-winning R&B legend Mary J. Blige has won her first Emmy Award for the 2022 Super Bowl Halftime performance.

According to BET, Blige won two Creative Arts Emmy Awards alongside hip-hop icons Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent and Eminem and veteran rapper Kendrick Lamar for the 2022 Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime show. Each artist reportedly took home wins for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) and Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Special, The Television Academy announced.

“For Outstanding Variety Special (Live), the #Emmy goes to The Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show starring @DrDre, @SnoopDogg, @MaryJBlige, @Eminem, @KendrickLamar, and @50Cent (@NBC)! #Emmys #Emmys2022,” its social media team tweeted on Sept. 3. The halftime show performance originally aired live from the SoFi Stadium in Englewood, California, on Feb. 13.

Two days later, on Sept. 5, Mary shared a celebratory post about her first Emmy via her Instagram page.

“YES GOD DID!!!! #YesterdaysPriceIsNotTodaysPrice,” she wrote, quoting Bronx rapper Fat Joe who came up with the catchphrase.

The “Good Morning Gorgeous” singer has been living her best life, as she’s recently posted pictures of herself enjoying the beach and hanging out on a yacht. She also shared a Timberland promo video on Sept. 6 but didn’t reveal much information on what it’s about.

“My gorgeous people! Let’s redefine bold. #BuiltForTheBold @timberland dropping tomorrow,” Mary wrote. The slide show in which the video was posted said, “Queen’s reign always ends. Or does it?”

A little over a week prior, on Aug. 28, she gave some words of advice via IG about handling rude people. It’s been unclear as to whether she was referring to someone or it was just a general statement.

“Just because I’m strong enough to handle pain, it doesn’t mean I deserve it. No more being nice to mean people,” the post said.
