Mary J. Blige Announces First Children’s Picture Book ‘Mary Can!’

Legendary award-winning R&B singer Mary J. Blige has announced her first children’s picture book, “Mary Can!” and told fans to “preorder your copy today!”

Mary shared her excitement about the children’s book via her Instagram page on Nov. 15.

“I’m so excited to share some BIG NEWS with you!!! I wrote a book for kids, and it is available for preorder TODAY! @harperkids,” she wrote in the post’s caption.

The Yonkers native continued, sharing the book’s premise with her fans and followers.

“‘Mary Can!’ is an inspirational and motivating story about a young girl who proves that anyone can make their dreams come true if they just believe in themselves,” she wrote. “It’s such a personal story for me, based off my own experiences as a child and even as an adult. I was so used to people telling me ‘no’ and that I ‘couldn’t,’ which only motivated me more. My hope with this book is that it instills in kids from an early age that they can do anything they aspire to do. There are no limits to what they can accomplish!”

Mary’s post included a photo of the book’s vibrant cover, illustrated by award-winning Black artist Ashleigh Corrin.

“‘Mary Can!,’ illustrated by award-winning @ashleigh_corrin, is officially out on Mar. 28. Follow the link in my bio to preorder your copy today!”

The beloved singer has had her hands full, as she’s been working on several different endeavors. In September, Sis2Sis reported, the sons of Boys II Men alum Wanya Morris signed with her Beautiful Life Label.

“There’s been so much conversation about the state of R&B and the next generation of R&B artists,” Mary told Power 99.1 FM. “This generation has been giving us great R&B, and that feeling, that soul, and that sound remains in our DNA. When we heard WanMor sing, we knew we could stop looking. They are IT!”
