Maving Gaye III, the offspring of the renowned singer Marvin Gaye, has filed for divorce against his wife, Wendy Gaye, according to TMZ.
The outlet reported that legal documents showed that he filed for divorce on Wednesday. Listen under the date of separation, Marvin III wrote Jan. 12.
Jan. 12 was allegedly the same day cops surrounded his home due to domestic violence, where Wendy claimed he grabbed her by the neck, lifted her from the ground and pointed a gun at her. She said when her cousin intervened, he pointed a gun at both of them and threatened to shoot.
She added that this wasn’t the first time he had pointed a gun at her.
Video showed the moment when police called for Marvin III to come out while their guns were drawn. However, reports state that he was already gone.
For a reason behind the divorce, Marin III put they had “irreconcilable differences.” The son of the R&B legend requested that the court block Wendy’s ability to receive spousal support. Since they didn’t have kids, child support was no longer needed.
Marvin III was arrested after he drove to the Sheriff’s station and turned himself in. He was hit with a misdemeanor charge for domestic violence and felony assault with a deadly weapon. A $50,000 bond allowed him to be released.
The Gaye family has a history of gun violence. Marvin III’s father died in 1984 after being assassinated by his father.
Marvin III was adopted by the “Let’s Get It On” singer and his wife, Anna Gordy, but his biological mother was Anna’s niece, Denise Gordy.
In 2013, Marvin III released his first song, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” along with a music video featuring his soon-to-be ex-wife.
