Songstress Mariah Carey has flipped the script on ex-husband Nick Cannon with reference to their current custody arrangement.
According to Radar Online, the “Shake It Off” singer plans to file for primary custody of the former couple’s 11-year-old twins– Moroccan and Monroe. Since 2014, Cannon and Carey have had a cordial joint custody agreement. However, with the latest additions to the “Gigolo” rapper’s growing brood, the 52-year-old Grammy-winning singer admitted that he’s a loving dad– when he sees Monroe and Moroccan. Still, because he’s spread so thin, she’s seeking primary custody.
“The reality of the situation is that Monroe and Moroccan are usually with Mariah anyway. Nick doesn’t see much of them,” a source told Radar Online. “But she wants to put him on notice that he can’t just flit in and out of their lives while he attends to his other children. And she wants legal standing as the twins’ primary caregiver.”
A source said last year that Carey spoke with her ex about seeing their twins more often. Cannon admitted that he wasn’t as available as he wanted to be.
“Being a father of multiple kids, it’s always the biggest guilt on me,” he said. “It’s that I don’t get to spend enough time with all my children.”
Cannon added, “One ’cause I’m constantly working and two because I’m just spread thin.”
He just had his 12th child overall and his second child with Alyssa Scott on December 14. Their daughter’s birth followed the death of Zen last year.
“December 14, 2022,” Scott wrote on Instagram. “Our lives are forever changed. Zen is in every breath I take. I know his spirit was with us in the room that morning. I know he is watching down on us, he shows me signs every day. I will hold onto this memory forever. I will remember the sound of Nick’s voice saying ‘it’s a girl’ and the look of everything we’ve been through flash across his face. I will remember the sound of her crying out with her first breath and feeling her heartbeat against mine. My sweet girl, I got my surprise!! We love you Halo Marie Cannon!”
