This summer, legendary pop diva Mariah Carey will be inducted into the 2022 Songwriters Hall of Fame and other elite songwriters.

Carey initially found out about her being inducted in December 2019. Still, a ceremony could not be held due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The induction has been delayed two years in a row.

After hearing the good news, the “We Belong Together” singer celebrated with her twins, Moroccan and Monroe.

On Jan. 16, 2020, the singer posted photos of her and the twins celebrating with gold balloons that spell out “Hall of Fame” and gold streamers. The post included the caption: “Always celebrate the happy moments in life,” followed by a red heart.

Carey is renowned for her whistle notes and having 19 number one hits, 18 she co-wrote. She began her singing career at 18, and since 1990 (when her self-titled album debuted), she has remained one of the world’s most influential and talented artists. 

The ceremony will be held at the Marriot Marquis Hotel in New York.

“I’m relieved the decision was made, and I’m really excited about getting back into what we consider hopefully a norm,” SHOF President and CEO Linda Moran said. “I think our event is going to be very cathartic for people. We’re thought of as an annual family reunion of the songwriting and music publishing communities. People want to come back to the same venue, the same format of the show, and hopefully, see the same people.”

Songwriters inducted alongside Carey are Annie Lennox, Pharrell Williams, Ernie Isley, Marvin Isley, O’Kelly Isley, Ronald Isley, Rudolph Isley, and Chris Jasper of The Isley Brothers, Steve Miller, Chad Hugo of The Neptunes, and more.

The 51st Annual Induction & Awards Gala is set to take place on June 16, 2022.
