Man Who Killed Nicki Minaj’s Father In Hit-And-Run Claims No Wrongdoing

According to Radar Online, Charles Polevich, the man who killed the father of Nicki Minaj, has denied that he is responsible for the hit-and-run accident that killed Robert Maraj on February 12. He was 64.

Polevich denied any culpability in the hit-and-run accident that killed Maraj and seemingly blamed Maraj for his own death. Maraj was walking down a New York street when Polevich, 70, hit him with his vehicle. The man stopped the car, got out and asked Maraj if he was okay; he got back in and drove away without calling 911. Maraj died later at the hospital.

Polevich went home and hid his vehicle, but the police found him by tracing the vehicle after looking at surveillance footage in the area. New paperwork recently filed revealed that Polevich has denied all allegations of wrongdoing and plead not guilty. His lawyer is also asking for the case to be dismissed because Maraj was negligent and reckless while crossing the street. The attorney also claimed that Polevich was suddenly faced with an emergency “not of his own making.”

The judge has not ruled on the request from Polevich’s lawyer, and Minaj’s mother, Carol Maraj, has filed a $150 million civil lawsuit against Polevich. Her attorney, Ben Crump, announced the lawsuit through social media on March 19.

“Paul Napoli and I have filed a $150 million lawsuit in the hit-and-run death of Robert Maraj, @nickiminaj‘s father, he wrote. “He was fatally injured in a hit-and-run accident on February 12, 2021, when he was struck by a car being driven by Charles Polevich as Mr. Maraj walked along a Long Island road. After striking Maraj, Polevich left the accident scene and did not call for emergency services or render aid to Maraj.”

Crump said that they held Polevich accountable for his “criminal, cowardly and immoral” behavior.

Carol Maraj is suing Keyspan Energy Corporation, the city hired to replace lighting at the intersection where Maraj was hit, claiming negligence.

The lawsuit contends that his death was because of “negligent acts of defendant KEYSTONE, its agents, servants and superiors in the performance of work, maintenance, operation and control of the subject worksite with utter disregard of the result upon the rights and safety of the plaintiff, either alone or in conjunction with its agents.”

She is also suing Robert J. Banker Construction, Inc. for failing to keep their worksite safe while repairing the roadway and claims that it contributed to her husband’s death. Maraj is suing for $150 million for damages, funeral expenses and lack of companionship.

Minaj has been unable to talk about her father’s death except to say that the loss was “devastating.”

She also said that Maraj was loved and will be greatly missed.
