Lizzo made her mama Shari Johnson-Jefferson cry tears of joy after she surprised her with a closet filled with a new wardrobe for her birthday.
The “Truth Hurts” songstress shared a video of the touching moment to her Instagram page on Friday. In the video, Lizzo walks Johnson-Jefferson into a chic closet full of clothing and accessories.

As Johnson-Jefferson looked around, her daughter asked if she liked the items.
“You like these clothes?” Lizzo asked.
After her mom nodded in approval, Lizzo dropped the surprise.
“There are your clothes. I got you a wardrobe!” she said.
Johnson-Jefferson was overcome with emotion and relief.
“I don’t have to look like a bum anymore,” she said as she flipped through the racks.
“No ma’am! Not on my watch,” Lizzo said. Johnson-Jefferson burst into tears and hugged her daughter. The video ended with clips of her modeling her new threads, flipping her hair and living her best life.
Lizzo added context to her mother’s “bum” comment in the video’s caption. She also thanked stylist Jason Rembert for curating the closet.
“Ever since daddy passed you’ve been telling me it’s been hard to dress nice for yourself,” the singer wrote. “I know I can’t bring ur best friend back… but I still wanna give you the world. Happy birthday mommy, I love you. Time to be FLYY, girl!”
Lizzo’s father died in 2009, when she was 21 years old, according to HuffPost. Last Christmas, after she gifted Johnson-Jefferson an Audi, Lizzo promised to love on her mom to honor her father.
“I remember crying in my car when my daddy passed, no job no money nowhere to live, wishing I could one day provide for my family,” she wrote on Instagram last year. “I [couldn’t] do it for my dad so ima make sure I spoil Mama.”
