Legendary Rap Duo Salt-N-Pepa To Receive Star On Hollywood Walk of Fame

Legendary rap duo Salt-N-Pepa is getting its flowers by being honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The organization announced the news on October 27. Salt-N-Pepa will be the 2,738th star under the “Recording Category.” The star will be placed on Hollywood Boulevard next to Amoeba Music. The ceremony is scheduled on November 4 at 11:30 a.m.

Walk of Fame Producer Ana Martinez expressed her excitement about the “Shoop” rappers’ induction, saying, “

This upcoming star ceremony honoring hip-hop pioneers Salt-N-Pepa will honor the amazing 80s music we all love, and so many grew up with! We’re placing these ladies of Hip Hop royalty adjacent to Amoeba Music and right next to the Walk of Fame star of another Queen of Hip Hop, Missy Elliott!”

Rap icons MC Lyte and Roxanne Chante will be on deck to present the honor to Sandra “Pepa” Denton and Cheryl “Salt” James are the trailblazers for women in rap. The “First Ladies of Hip Hop” were known for bringing fly fashions and feminity to the rap game. The two femcees hail from Jamaica and Brooklyn, respectively.

Their debut album, “Hot, Cool & Vicious,” set the rap world on fire in 1986. Produced by Herbie “Luvbug” Azor, the record launched hits like “Push It,” “My Mic Sound Nice,” and “Tramp.”

Brooklyn-born Deirdra “Spinderella” Roper joined Denton and James shortly after the album’s release.

The duo’s second album, “A Salt With A Deadly Pepa,” released in 1988, went platinum and featured hits “Get Up” and “Shake Your Thang” with gogo greats EU.

Salt-N-Pepa had five studio albums and 12 compilation albums.

In 1994, the duo won a Grammy for Best Rap Performance by A Duo for “None of Your Business.”  They were among the first female rappers to win the coveted award. 

They still hold the record for having the best-selling album for a female rap group.
