Lauryn Hill will board the Tom Joyner Foundation’s Fantastic Voyage as a performer to support HBCUs.

“The rapper, singer, songwriter, actress and producer Ms. Lauryn Hill is doing her part by joining the 2023 Tom Joyner Fantastic Voyage to help Tom raise money to keep kids in school at Historically Black Colleges and Universities,” former radio personality Tom Joyner wrote on Instagram.

According to the Tom Joyner Foundation Fantastic Voyage website, “There Goes My Baby” singer Charlie “Uncle Charlie” Wilson and Stevie Wonder will also be performing. More performers will be announced soon.

The cruise will sail from May 20-27, departing from Fort Lauderdale and hitting up Mexico, Grand Cayman and Jamaica. The voyage takes place on Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas ship.

Prominent musicians like Gospel singer Hezekiah Walker, LL Cool J, Cherrelle, Deniece Williams, Chanté Moore, Wilson, Maze and Franki Beverly have performed in previous years.

Joyner’s foundation was created in 1998 to financially support HBCUs, giving students a chance to attend college and succeed.

“The Foundation has provided necessary support to every HBCU in 20+ years history to help sustain and preserve the legacies of these valuable institutions,” the Foundation’s website read. “Through fundraising and donor development initiatives, over $69 million has been raised to support more than 32,000 students attending HBCUs. Additionally, the Foundation has recommended internships, offered matching grant support, and career development to deserving students.”

Those who want to “party with a purpose” with next year’s voyage can visit Fantastic Voyage’s website. Prices vary from $3,174 to about almost $9,000. A $500 deposit is required for each individual occupying the chosen cabin.

Hill has been touring recently and is expected to perform at Miami’s Funk Fest at the end of December, headlining Saturday’s show on Dec. 31 (New Year’s Eve) alongside Jazmine Sullivan.
