La La Anthony Says, ‘Marriage Culture Isn’t Like It Used To Be’

BMF actress La La Anthony shared her opinions on marriage and rocky relationships on a January 25 episode of The Breakfast Club. She opened up about her opinions on why fewer and fewer people were getting married in the episode alongside Charlemagne Da God and DJ Envy.

Anthony began, “I don’t hear people who aren’t married saying like, ‘I wanna get married.’ you just start hearing it less and less.

Like, before, that was a goal… I’m not in conversation with people who are like, ‘I can’t wait to meet someone and get married.’”

She continued to point out that a lot of her friends, who she has who are married, are unsatisfied with their relationship life. She described their marriage, saying, “Most–I’m not saying all, I’m being careful with my words–most married people that I know are miserable. And not happy. And don’t wanna be married.”

Anthony proposed that infidelity and the changing times were likely to blame for the sentiment about matrimony evolving. She said she didn’t go into her past marriage with her ex-husband, Carmelo Anthony, expecting it to end the way it did.

“The people in the public eye go through stuff,” Anthony expressed. “It’s like this kinda idea of like, well, people don’t feel bad for them, or what did you expect, or what did you think.”

“Especially even dealing with athletes. It’s kind of like, well, what did you think was going to happen? Guess what? Nobody goes into a marriage thinking that that’s going to happen. No, you don’t go into a marriage thinking that. If you thought that and believed that your connection with that person wasn’t something different, then you wouldn’t get married to them.”

The television personality told The Breakfast Club co-hosts about her mindset when she first married.

“I went into a marriage saying I found a connection with someone that we’re gonna do it differently,” she said thoughtfully. “Regardless if you’re an athlete, whatever you are, entertainer. Any kind of business you’re in.”
