Actress Kyla Pratt appeared on Jemele Hill’s podcast, Jemele Hill Is Unbothered and revealed

that her youngest daughter is one of her biggest fans as the voice of Penny Proud in The Proud Family reboot. 

In the interview, Pratt shared how disappointed her daughter, Liyah Kilpatrick, was after finding out that she had to wait for the new episodes in the upcoming season of the Disney+ series. 

The 35-year-old recalled her daughter being excited when new episodes would be available on Wednesdays to watch on the streaming platform. Then, however, Pratt said she had to explain to the 8-year-old that the season was over and new episodes had to be recorded before they were released. 

“Just to even have that conversation with my almost 9-year-old and her being genuinely excited for something I’m a part of…what more can you ask for,” Pratt said.

While Liyah is a dedicated fan of the animated series, Pratt’s eldest daughter Lyric also became a fan of the show. In 2020, the 11-year-old dressed as Penny Proud for Halloween, completely nailing her mother’s beloved character. 

The Proud Family initially aired on the Disney Channel in 2001, with Destiny’s Child and Beyoncé’s sister Solange as vocals in the theme song. The series lasted for nearly four years, with three seasons on the network. Two decades later, the company announced that it would be reviving the series with Disney+. 

The first episode of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder 

aired on Feb 23, with the original cast members, including Tommy Davidson (Oscar Proud), Paula Jai Parker (Trudy Proud), and Jo Marie Payton (Suga Mama), along with the new additions to the comedic series. 

In an interview with Hollywood Life, Pratt explained how she introduced her daughters to the show years before the reboot was in the works. 

 “I played the DVD for them of The Proud Family Movie when they were much younger just to see if they recognized my voice,” she said. “I didn’t have access to the episodes at that time.”

The actress went on to talk about her youngest daughter, Liyah’s reaction once the reboot trailer was released, “When Disney+ put the series on their app… they love it so much. My 8-year-old was playing the preview for this literally like 100 times, and I was like, “Okay, I’m tired of hearing myself. Can we listen to something else, please?”

In April, Disney+ announced the show would be renewed for a second season.
