Grammy-nominated rapper Kodak Black recently announced that he paid rent for 28 South Florida families facing eviction.
According to Yahoo News, Kodak announced the generous gesture via his Instagram page on Sept. 27.
“28 families [were] [about] to get evicted for being behind on their rent a few months,” he wrote in an Instagram stories post. “I paid what they owed and also paid their rents for the next few months, so they good for the [remainder] of the year.”
The needy families he helped reside the Merry Place Housing Projects in West Palm Beach, reports said. Kodak shared another Instagram post by community organizer Francky Pierre Paul, which provided more information on his selfless act.
“After seeing this year’s rent increase has affected many families in South Florida, award-winning rapper Kodak Black and the Zachariah McQueen Foundation decided to team up to pay the rent of twenty-eight (28) families living in the Merry Place Housing Projects in West Palm Beach, that were facing eviction. Through this act of kindness, these families’ rents will be paid off in full for the remainder of the year, covering all previous late fees and the months of October, November, and December, allowing them the opportunity to celebrate the holidays without worrying about how they will be able to keep a roof over their heads,” the post said.
The Pompano Beach rapper told TMZ that he was “happy about making other people happy.”
“I’m happy about making other people happy,” he told the outlet. “It makes my heart happy to know those 28 families are being taken care of through the end of the year. I don’t always post the good I do. I just try to do right by people.”
Kodak also reportedly covered back fees, making his monetary gift a total of $88,902.80.
The 25-year-old musician is no stranger to giving back, as demonstrated on many occasions. In 2018, he famously donated $10,000 to the Jack and Jill center and started a memorial fund for Florida officers killed in the line of duty. Two years later, in 2021, he reportedly hand-delivered 100 air conditioning units to residents of the projects in his hometown.
On Sept. 29, he shared a video of himself donning all-white and diamonds while wishing his followers a good remainder of the year.
