Kid Cudi Dons Floral Dress For SNL, Pays Homage To Kurt Cobain And Chris Farley

On Saturday, Kid Cudi performed on Saturday Night Live (SNL) and turned heads with more than his music. Social media erupted after the musician rocked a floral dress on-stage, complete with spaghetti straps and a skull-clad necklace. Fans also pointed out Kurt Cobain’s infamous button-down floral dress moment from the ‘90s.

Last year, Kid Cudi dropped his latest album, Man On The Moon III: The Chosen, which climbed to Billboard’s #1 spot on their Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart. “Sad People” a single from the album also gained commercial success with fans, boasting over 1.6 million views on YouTube.

SNL invited Kid Cudi to perform “Sad People” along with “Tequila Shots,” another fan favorite. Defying traditional gender norms, he entered the stage wearing an ankle-length floral dress by the black designer Virgil Abloh’s fashion brand Off-White.

Fans took to Twitter to share their support of the rapper-singer, and also point out his emulation of late rock musician and Nirvana lead singer Cobain. Supporters also noticed that he paid homage to Cobain on the 27th anniversary of his death.

Kid Cudi also paid tribute to Chris Farley, the late SNL cast member who made millions laugh throughout the early 1990s. During his performance for “Tequila Shots,” he wore a t-shirt with Farley’s face, and a green cardigan similar to what Cobain wore for MTV’s Unplugged.

Kid Cudi pulling the ultimate Kurt Cobain tribute on #SNL on the week of this death. @KidCudi all about love and suicide prevention and awareness!!!” a fan tweeted with side-by-side photos of Cobain and the “Day ‘n’ Nite” rapper.

Others praised the musician for wearing an outfit outside of the masculine norm. “What you wear does not define how masculine you are,” another fan

replied back to a critic, “It’s about owning up to who you are as a person and not getting insecure the minute you see someone do something that is out of YOUR comfort zone.”
