Keyshia Cole To Semi-Retire From Music

Keyshia Cole, the woman who “sang” her way onto the R&B scene two decades ago, has announced that she plans to semi-retire, Vibe reports.

The 39-year-old singer entertainer announced on social media that she would be stepping away from recording any new projects after her upcoming eighth album because she wants to spend more time with her two children.

Although categorized as R&B, Cole rose to fame with songs that were the soundtrack for teens and young women living their very own Jody and Yvette relationship fantasy. Some of those same fans were shaken by the news of her impending partial retirement, wondering if Cole had been hacked. Cole assured them that she was serious about her plans.

In January, the struggling entertainer participated in the Verzuz challenge against Ashanti to an audience of 1.1 million. Befitting her proletarian image, Cole made the “Always On Time” vocalist wait an hour after the scheduled start time for her arrival. After 20 Rounds, Cole was declared unsuccessful in the battle by Billboard.

For those who only like to view a mess instead of hearing it, Cole starred in a documentary series, Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is, on BET from 2006 to 2008. She let viewers into her life and subjected us to her family, including her mother, Frankie and half-sister, Neffe.

The “Love” singer has had some ups and downs throughout her career, such as noted “beef” with Lil’ Mo’, Gucci Mane, and daring to criticize “Bow Down” by millennial queen Beyonce Knowles. However, the sharpest blow may have been finding out that she was

not, indeed, biracial when a 2016 DNA test revealed her father’s identity.

The 2011 Mp3 Music Awards winner proved to be a waymaker for other artists who do unnecessary vocal runs like Jacquees with her hit single, “Love.”

But her fans needn’t worry. Cole still plans to tour and do live performances just in time for proms to make a comeback.
