Kevin Gates decided to give out sandwiches and fresh fruit to homeless people instead of uncooked turkeys on Nov. 25 in Baton Rouge, La. The rapper aptly noted that giving away raw turkeys isn’t helpful for the homeless.

Gates gave ziplock bags filled with sandwiches and fresh fruit to homeless people he randomly found on the streets. The rapper recorded his good deed and encouraged others to help the less fortunate in a post to his Instagram Stories.

“The greatest deed ever is to feed the less fortunate,” he wrote. “May Allah elevate our Rank I love you All #TheBeloved.”

DJ Akademiks posted a video of Gates responding to a fan who asked Gates why he was giving out bags of fresh fruit and sandwiches instead of turkeys. The rapper noted the obvious with his reply.

“A muthaf***a just asked me why I wasn’t passing out turkeys,” he said. “Let’s think logically, if I go out here and pass out a bunch of uncooked turkeys, where are they gonna cook ’em?” he replied.

The rapper flashed a huge smile after he replied, “I’ll wait.”

Some commenters agreed about the raw turkeys but suggested that Gates up his game next time after some folks critiqued his food choice.

“That’s why you pass out plates of cooked food with foil on top type s**t. Ain’t got to but that’s prolly what they meant.”

Gates doesn’t just give away sandwiches. He is also an activist and has partnered with the Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC) to end mass incarceration in California.

He also teamed up with the platform Propeller for a campaign to benefit several social issues such as mental health, ending mass incarceration and climate justice.

The organization Write Love on Her Arms also teamed up with the rapper to help those who struggle with addiction, depression and those at risk for suicide. He also has a foundation with his wife Dreka that educates youth about depression and mental health.
