Kerrion Franklin, son of gospel artist Kirk Franklin, is back in the news. He has alleged he was being abused by his mother, Shawn Ewing, and threatened with forced hospitalization and treatment.
Months ago, Franklin produced an audio recording of him and his father engaged in an expletive-filled argument. It took social media by storm, not only because one of the two people in the battle is known for his penchant for all things holy, but because of the visceral anger and hurt that could be heard in the exchange.
On Sept. 5, he recorded himself on Instagram Live, claiming that his mother was threatening him with hospitalization.

In the video, Franklin alleges that he was being abused and assaulted by his mother after his grandmother was heard telling him to put some clothes on.
“My mama done [sic] already assaulted me. They [sic] trying to take me to some hospital. This crazy,” Franklin said to his followers.
Further along in the video, Franklin stands outside with his mother and grandmother and continues to argue with them. He then tells his mother to “tell the world” he needs help.
His mother obliges him and says, “You need help.”
“I’m a grown man,” Franklin, 33, says shortly before re-entering his grandmother’s home where he had been staying and saying that he was going to get his personal belongings and go to his grandfather’s home.
While Franklin claimed that he recorded the video because he needed “protection” and even told his mother and grandmother to call the police, the two women appear to be the most vulnerable individuals in the video.
Since his public conflict with his father, he has maintained that he has been abused and abandoned by his family. His father spoke to Tamron Hall on her show to deny the allegations.
Shortly thereafter, Franklin’s mother defended his father and said that her son has always been rebellious and has accused his father of wanting to kill him.
It is hard to make heads or tails of this family drama, but we sincerely wish them a peaceful resolution.
