Keri Hilson Starts a Twitter Debate After She Admitted She Wanted A Black Soulmate

Singer-songwriter Keri Hilson started a debate about Black love when shared her desire to have a family with a Black man on Twitter.

Hilson revealed her dreams for her future family in a series of tweets on Tuesday.

“I want who God wants for me, but am I wrong for hoping my soulmate is a black man? He don’t even have to be American, I’ve dated 3 non-American black men. But I want to love a black man. Or a man of color,” the “Pretty Girl Rock” singer wrote.

“And if he’s neither, he’d have to have a deep understanding & genuine support of my pro-blackness,” Hilson added. “Anybody feel me?”

Her tweets started a flurry of activity on the bird app as users weighed in.

“No, sis you are not wrong! You were made for a black man and a black man was made for you,” tweeted one person. “If you knew who you truly are this would not even be a discussion.”

“Keri is problematic. Why should black women exclusively deal with black men when black men dont exclusively deal eith black women? Black men swirl they asses off & black women should do the same,” wrote another.

Regardless of how the masses felt, Hilson stood by her statement. She also plans to make a bag from it by selling “my soulmate is Black” t-shirts.

Hilson was previously in a relationship with NBA player Serge Ibaka. They were together for four years until their breakup in 2016. Her last album, No Boys Allowed, was released in 2010. Hilson has turned to acting and will star in “Don’t Waste Your Pretty,” a film adaption of a book written by Demetria Lucas.

She admitted the role has changed her views on love.

“I think I learned that I should take a little more time for love,” Hilson told HelloBeautiful. “I should put myself in positions a little more often but I won’t do online dating. I’ve never felt moved and it’s just not for me. As a celebrity, I never felt the need to go that route and I don’t think it’s very wise.”
