Kelly Rowland recently clapped back at radio host, Ebro Darden, after he compared her to Beyoncé, saying, ‘I am light too.’
Kelly shared her sentiments during a recent interview with Ebro on the legendary NYC radio station, Hot97. She reportedly made an appearance on the “Ebro In The Morning” show to promote her new film, Fantasy Football, on Nov. 16.
“I love Bey [and] I know that she’s a light, but I know that I’m a light too,” the Grammy Award-winning singer said. Actress Marsai Martin accompanied her to the interview, as she also co-stars in Fantasy Football.
Kelly’s comments were in response to Ebro’s co-host Peter Rosenberg, who referenced her recent interview with Angie Martinez. In it, she talked about her best friend and former Destiny’s Child groupmate Beyoncé.
“Angie gave you flowers for your ability to play second to Beyoncé,” Peter told her. “You happen to be standing next to the brightest light on planet Earth.”
He even made a reference to the ’00s Atlanta rap duo Outkast.
“You think Big Boi from Outkast has it tough being next to Andre? You’re with Beyoncé, and not only did you not have to fight it, like, you really loved the position you were in and took it seriously,” Peter said.
Kelly then interjected, saying that despite Beyoncé’s popularity dating back to the ’90s, she holds her own.
“Here’s the thing. Light attracts light. I am light. I am a beautiful, brown, shining [one],” she said. “So, I don’t think anybody’s light dims anyone else’s. I think that when other people start to compare you, I think that’s when it shows how dim they are of themselves.”
She continued, saying that she doesn’t feel the need to dim anyone else’s light to feel special.
“I don’t take someone else trying to dim my light anymore for anybody else,” she said.
