Kelis is not happy about her song “Milkshake” being sampled on Beyoncé’s track “Energy” from her latest album Renaissance. She claimed that she had no idea Beyoncé was sampling it and found out the same way the entire world did.
“Milkshake” was produced by the Neptunes, which consisted of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, and was a track on\ her 2003 album Tasty. After finding out that her track was sampled, Kelis gave her thoughts in the comments of a post on her fan page.

“My mind is blown too because the level of disrespect and utter ignorance of all three parties involved is astounding,” Kalis wrote in the comments. “I heard about this the same way everyone else did. Nothing is ever as it seems, some of the people in this business have no soul or integrity, and they have everyone fooled.”
Far from being done with the matter, Kelis took to her Instagram page and continued addressing the issue.
In the first video, she clarified that her problem wasn’t only with Beyoncé and the fact that she didn’t reach out to her to ask to sample her song for “Energy,” but her problem was also with Williams for not asking her to sample the song and claimed it was a hit at her.

“I said what I said, ’cause it’s the truth,” Kelis wrote in the caption box. “You don’t have to like it or agree. Facts are facts. If you’re a sheep, keep it moving this convo will be over your head. I didn’t ask for this, but I’m not afraid of it either.”
In another video, she talked about how it’s hypocritical that Williams preached about artist rights yet has his name on all of Kelis’ singleallegedly s yet didn’t write theegedly. She insinuated that Beyoncé was a hypocrite, singing about women’s empowerment, “talking the talk” but not “walking the walk.”

“I just heard the record everyone is saying has my sample,” Kelis wrote. “But it’s beyond this song at this point. This was a TRIGGER for me. “Milkshake” alone is one of the most licensed records of our generation. I am, I’m an innovator, I have done more [than] left my mark on an era of music and style that will go down in history. But there are bullies and secrets and gangsters in this industry that smile and get away with it until someone says enough is enough. So I’m saying it today. I’m coming for what’s mine, and I want reparations. Peace.”
It’s unclear if Beyoncé got clearance to sample her music or not for “Energy.”
