Kanye West Unfollows Nicki Minaj On Instagram Following Her Recent “Clown” Comment

Award-winning rapper and entrepreneur Kanye West recently unfollowed award-winning rapper and songwriter Nicki Minaj on Instagram following her recent “clown” comment.

Kanye unfollowed Nicki as of July 11 after she seemingly dissed him during her Essence Festival set on July 1.

Halfway through her set, Nic’s Dj, Dj Boof, began playing Ye’s hit 2010 song “Monster,” but she cut him off abruptly, saying she doesn’t “f**k with clowns.”

Nicki was featured on the classic ’10s hip-hop song, delivering one of her most memorable verses, alongside Kanye, legendary award-winning rapper and businessman Jay-Z, Miami rapper Rick Ross, and Indie Rock artist Bon Iver.

“A monster, though!” she said at Essence Fest while DJ Boof was playing the track. “A monster, though! But we don’t fuck with clowns.”

Although it’s been unclear as to why the Queens native made her comment, some speculated that it had something to do with Kanye’s new collaboration with award-winning Bronx rapper Cardi B and Chicago rapper Lil Durk, which dropped the same day as her Essence Festival performance. Others speculated that it had something to do with Yeezy refraining from releasing his last collaboration song with Nicki, “New Body,” featuring award-winning R&B singer Ty Dolla $ign. The single was leaked in 2019 and went viral on social media platforms–namely, TikTok.

Nicki Minaj also didn’t play “Monster” as part of her headlining Wireless Festival performance on July 10 in London.

Kanye is no stranger to controversy, as he typically rants about his fallouts with other public figures on Instagram. Still, he hasn’t publicly commented on the “We Go Up” rapper’s recent commentary. He was last seen making a guest appearance at rapper The Game’s concert in L.A. on July 8. There, he performed his 2022 song “Eazy,” featuring Game.

Ye is also scheduled to headline Rolling Loud Miami on July 22.
