Chicago-bred rapper Kanye West is honoring his late mother, Donda West, in a big way. The “Gold Digger” singer is currently fine-tuning his album named after her, titled “DONDA,” which has already received rave reviews ahead of its upcoming release. A source recently told the Associated Press that West has been residing in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium as he finishes up the awaited album, switching things up from his multi-million dollar Wyoming Ranch.
Revealing that he got a chance to listen to the album early along with NBA baller Kevin Durant, social media star Justin Laboy wrote on Twitter last week, “Kanye played his new album for me & @KDTrey5 last night in Vegas. Man listen! The production is light years ahead of its time, and the bars sound like he’s broke & hungry trying to get signed again. Any artist who plan on dropping soon should just push it back.”
According to TMZ, West recently held a listening party for “DONDA” at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Also featured on Apple Music, the show ended up breaking the platform’s streaming record by bringing in over 3 million virtual viewers, the outlet reported. Estranged wife Kim Kardashian was reportedly in attendance at the big event to support West along with their four children.
