On an Instagram Live that occurred on Tuesday, singer-songwriter Kandi Burruss was interviewed by musician Eddie Levert. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star shared how mega-group Boyz II Men (B2M) allegedly disrespected her in the studio.

Burruss didn’t bother getting into the nitty-gritty of what exactly happened in the studio other than to say that it “wasn’t about the singing” at the time of the live stream.

Instead, the singer said, “I hate to do it. I hate to do it. Ain’t no love lost. I mean, this is 100 years later, so it doesn’t even matter. But yeah, I had a bad experience in the studio with Boyz II Men.”

“We fell out after that. It was an issue,” Burruss continued. “I don’t think I’ve ever been disrespected like that before in a studio in my life. It was crazy, really. But at the end of the day, that was a long time ago. Clearly, you know, we’ve moved past that or whatever.”

After speaking her piece, one of B2M’s members responded.

The Grio reported that Wayne Morris rebuked Burruss’ claim by clarifying that the group had a rift with the songstress over song credits. 

On his own Instagram Live, Morris said, “We’ve been taught you write [a song], and you split [songwriting credits] down the middle. That way, there’s no discrepancies.”

“We finish the song, and once we finish the song, she started talking about splits. Now, the song wasn’t actually finished, but she started talking about splits,” he explained.

In music industry terms, ‘splits’ are the percentage of songwriting credits that each writer is given on an individual song, and how much they negotiate on a top song can make or break the deal. 

The song alleged to be the cause of discord between the group and Burruss is “Beautiful Women.”

The song is featured on her discography and has her listed as a co-writer with Boyz II Men.

Morris argued, “Now we’re from the old school, we’re from the ‘Aye, you write a lyric, I’ll write a lyric’ — it’s really about just building this whole thing together. She started talking about splits, and we sat there, and we were like ‘Splits?’ First of all, we didn’t even finish the song yet. We didn’t finish writing the song yet. Why would we talk about splits?”

He also said that Burruss became more challenging to work with after the group “made a little bit of a stink” to her way of handling business.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta, stated that he respects her opinion and her ways despite the contention between her and the group.

Regardless of what went on in the past, the Grammy-award winning group and Burruss worked together following this situation. Morris confessed that he’s experienced working with other musicians who follow the same protocol as Burruss.
