Last year, Lovecraft Country captivated audiences with its phenomenal, mostly-Black cast and fresh take on the sci-fi and horror genres. Jurnee Smollett, who starred in the HBO series alongside breakout star Jonathan Majors and seasoned actors Courtney B. Vance and Michael K. Williams, honored Williams in an Instagram post on Nov. 22– the late actor’s 55th birthday.
Sharing a series of pictures taken with Williams on set, Smollett wrote on Instagram this past Monday, “The last few years have been filled with such extreme highs and lows. In the midst of all the blessings and highs, a certain amount of heartbreak, heartache has been a constant companion of mine. It’s been a struggle and a bit of a mindf*ck to hold space for both. The blessings and the heartache. Alas. That is life.”

“Today, feeling a lot. Mostly missing this beautiful man, the beautiful life, the beautiful art we created,” Smollett continued. “Some things I’ll just never understand. While I’ll always miss the “us” we were, and my heart is hurting, I’m thankful for the time I had you as mine. Love you for life @bkbmg.”

As Sister 2 Sister previously reported, Williams was discovered dead in his Brooklyn home on Sept. 6. Following an autopsy, the New York native’s death was ruled as an accidental drug overdose.
Williams, who made his mark iconic shows like The Wire and Boardwalk Empire, leaves behind a son and countless fans.
