Nickelodeon alum Kel Mitchell has been through a lot, from a messy court battle with ex-wife Tyisha Hampton to being slammed publicly by his daughter, Allure Mitchell. Things are starting to look up after the judge ruled he doesn’t owe Hampton the $1.2 million she claimed he owed, Radar Online reported.
Hampton has publicly accused Kel of being a deadbeat father and maintained in court that he owed her $1.2 million in back child and spousal support. Kel and his lawyer argued that the actor didn’t owe his ex anything, mainly since she sold their family home for $425,000, which made up for what he owed.
“[Tyisha] has a long history of foul play,” Kel’s attorney stated in the court documents. “There is evidence to support that she misrepresented her assets/income to the court in the past. She has forged a grant deed and signatures to transfer the title of the family residence in this case. She was charged criminally with identity theft.”
Kel claimed that his ex “has done everything in her power to drag [him] through her path of destruction.”
He continued, “I was forced to start over and made an active effort to get my life and affairs in order. I focused on rebuilding my relationships and my career. Despite my best efforts, I’ve still had to spend all these years and thousands of dollars to defend myself against her actions. Tyisha has pained me as a deadbeat father, not only to this courtroom but to the community and my entire public platform.”
The judge sided with the Kenan and Kel actor, deciding that the money earned from selling the home covered the back support Kel owed.
“The Court finds that any and all arrears pursuant to the Judgement from [Kel] to [Tyisha] are paid in full by Petitioner,” the court ruling read.
Per a Sis2Sis report, Allure backed her mother’s accusations of Kel being a deadbeat father in late December through TikTok videos, claiming the only support her father gave was financial.
