On the second day of the 55th National Convention, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. announced the list of Honorary Members for 2021, which includes journalists Joy-Ann Reid and Abby Phillip and singer Ledisi.
The complete list of honorees was revealed via the organization’s Instagram page. The list includes former Navy Admiral Michelle J. Howard, Ambassador Attallah Shabazz, and Collette V. Smith, the NFL’s #1 Black female coach.

The Instagram caption read, “Honorary membership is the highest honor given to women who have made a significant contribution to society while excelling in their chosen fields. It is with great joy that we welcome these exemplary women into our beloved sisters!”

Each of these women has received countless awards in their respective fields.
Ledisi has been nominated for numerous awards throughout her 21-year career, including 13 Grammy Award nominations and winning a Grammy earlier this year.
Reid has gained several political accolades serving as a national correspondent for MSNBC. CNN Senior Political Correspondent Abby Phillip is the host of Inside Politics.
Howard broke several barriers during her military career, including becoming the first African-American woman to command a U.S. Navy ship. She was also the first four-star female admiral to command active-duty forces.
Shabazz, daughter of Malcolm X, was asked by the Prime Minister of Belize to be the At-Large Ambassador permanently representing the Central American country.
Smith became the first female coach in the NFL when she coached New York Jets Defensive defender in the 2017-2018 season.
These women follow in the footsteps of other incredible Honorary Members, including Angela Bassett, Ruby Dee, Aretha Franklin, Cicely Tyson and many more.
