The new Candyman sequel will debut in movie theaters on Aug. 27, according to Variety. The highly-anticipated horror film written by Get Out writer Jordan Peele is directed by Nia DaCosta. The first film premiered in 1992.
However, to view the trailer on the film’s website, you have to say “Candyman” into the microphone five times before you can watch.
The original film was set in Chicago and was an audience favorite. Candyman, played by Tony Todd, is a vengeful ghost with a big hook as a hand. He’s vengeful because he was murdered by a group of white men, upset he had a child with a white woman in the 1800s.
The lynch mob cut off his hand and smeared it with honeycomb, and he was stung to death by bees. The mob then burned his body, and his ashes settled over the area where the Cabrini-Green projects were later built in Chicago.
He became an urban legend but saying his name five times into a mirror summons him. Once he is summoned, gory murders ensued.
Black people on social media were not inclined to say “Candyman” five times for any reason whatsoever. We’ve added the trailer here, so you won’t have to say it.

So who thought it was a bright idea to celebrate the new CandyMan movie by making a TikTok Candyman challenge out of saying his name 5x in the mirror?…
No thank you.
